Hungaroring: Sunday’s Formula 1 event in Budapest is round 11 in the 2008 Formula 1 World Championship. The Magyar Grand Prix has featured some memorable Hungarian dances over the years. The inaugural event in 1986 saw an unbelievable slipping and sliding pass on the outside by Nelson Piquet over arch rival and fellow Brazilian countryman Ayrton Senna. In 1989 Senna again had to settle for second place after a brilliant lightning quick move by Nigel Mansell to grab the lead and win in a Ferrari after starting from the sixth row. Fernando Alonso scored his maiden win here in 2003, lapping Michael Schumacher on his way to victory. The long dry winless spell for Jenson Button was over in the wet 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix.
And it was in the 2007 race that the Hungarian rhapsody developed a sour note in the McLaren band. Shenanigans orchestrated by both the drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, was the beginning of the end of their world championship hopes, and time for the hombre from Oviedo was over in Ron’s den in Woking.
