Fairy tale in Spain. Robert Wickens dominated the opening round of the re-launched Formula 2 series. The 20-year old “Pronto from Toronto” turned his two pole positions into double dominating wins in Valencia at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
Ducati delight. Valentino Rossi’s tremendous run of seven successive wins at Mugello came to an end last weekend. Australian ex-world champion Casey Stoner scored his and team Ducati’s first MotoGP win in the hills of Tuscany.
Kiwi in Milwaukee. Scott Dixon celebrates and takes championship lead after winning at Milwaukee mile, the oldest active racing track in the world. Pole-sitter Ryan Briscoe was second Team Penske and Dixon’s Ganassi teammate Dario Franchitti was third.
Captain of her heart. World wide global recession, Formula 1 in confusion, attendance down, even the Scottish skipper Jackie Stewart was missing from this year’s Monaco Grand Prix. It was still smooth sailing for the lucky few.
Won moment please. Jamie Whincup extended his lead in the Australian V8 series by winning race two at Symmons Plains in Tasmania. The Ford Falcon driver has now dialed in a 96-point lead over Holden Commodore driver Will Davison.
Don King of Sweden: Marcus Ericsson is hoping to be the next Super Swede. On Sunday he scored his maiden British F3 victory at Rockingham. Pointing his career in the right direction is his manager, former Indy 500 winner and fellow Swede, Kenny Brack.
