Magnussen Moment

The Magnussen name is magic in British Formula 3 racing. Papa Jan dominated the championship in 1994; winning six of the first eight races and finishing the season as champion with 14 victories from 18 races.

Fast forward to the 2011 Championship race on Saturday at Snetterton. His son Kevin took his first win in the same series.

Like father, like son. The younger Magnussen – born in Roskilde on October 5, 1992 – is also in the McLaren camp. While father made his F1 debut with the Woking team in the 1995 Pacific Grand Prix at Aida, Japan, Kevin is now part of McLaren Driver Development programme.

Kevin’s motor racing career blasted off with 11 wins from 15 races to win the 2008 Danish Formula Ford Championship. The following season he stepped up to Formula Renault 2.0 NEC – North European Countries – and was second in the championship with 12 podiums from 14 races which included a solitary win.

Last year Kevin was third in the German Formula 3 Championship; scoring three wins and eight podium finishes from 18 starts. He also won a race in his only appearance in the more competitive Formula 3 Euro Series round in Valencia.
