Pau winner Marciello also victorious at Brands Hatch

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam) has won the fourth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 1.929 kilometres long Brands Hatch Indy circuit, also the fifth round of the FIA European Formula 3 Championship. Daniel Juncadalla (Prema Powerteam) and Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam) completed the lock-out of the podium for the Italian Prema Powerteam. Juncadella is now leading in the Formula 3 Euro Series drivers’ standings, while Marciello is on top in the European Formula 3 championship.

Italian Raffaele Marciello, who is backed by the Ferrari Formula 1 team, laid the basis for his second Formula 3 Euro Series race win right after the start, when he overtook Daniel Juncadella, who had started from pole position. Subsequently, both Prema drivers pulled clear from the rest of the field, led by Michael Lewis. At times, the American was put under pressure by Carlos Sainz (Carlin), but he succeeded in bringing his maiden Euro Series podium finish home. The two German junior drivers Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) and Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam) ended up fifth and sixth respectively as the best-placed rookie drivers in the field.

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): “I am very happy with this victory upon my debut at Brands Hatch. It wasn’t an easy race, because Daniel was very quick behind me. I couldn’t make a single mistake, because then he would have overtaken me right away.”

Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam): “Admittedly, I am not the happiest man on the podium, but I am not really disappointed with second place either. Unfortunately, my start wasn’t very good and Raffaele was able to overtake me. After that, he didn’t make any mistakes and therefore he has deserved this win. Today, he did the better job.”

Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam): “My start was good and on the first few metres, I was already quite closely behind Daniel and Raffaele, who were battling for the lead. In the race, I wasn’t able to match the pace of the two of them, but I am also happy with third place.”
