Interview with the man himself Trevor Carlin

Carlin Guest driver Jazeman Jaafar wins from rookie Sven Müller

In the fifth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series that was held at the 1.929 kilometres long Brands Hatch Indy circuit, guest driver Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin) just beat rookie Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam). After 28 laps, the young driver from Malaysia had a margin of 0.392 seconds. Rookie driver Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport) came home third. Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam), who finished twelfth after a poor start, remains in the lead of the Formula 3 Euro Series drivers’ standings.

At the start, Jazeman Jaafar decided the duel against Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport) in his favour. Both were side-by-side going into the first corner, but the Swede briefly came off the track and dropped back to fifth place. Sven Müller took over second place from Pascal Wehrlein and Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam). Müller kept the leaders within reach throughout the race, but he didn’t find the chance for a successful attack. Thus, Jaafar drove his maiden Formula 3 Euro Series victory home. Behind Felix Rosenqvist in fifth place, Carlos Sainz (Carlin) successfully defended his sixth place throughout the race against a charging Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam).

Jazeman Jaafar (Carlin): “Above all, I am racing in the Formula 3 Euro Series this weekend in order to gain experience, to learn and to get to know the Hankook tyres. Being able to win a race on top of that, of course, is particularly great.”

Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam): “My start was really good. I was able to move up into second place on the opening lap already, but I couldn’t successfully attack Jazeman Jaafar for the lead in the early stages. After that, I was quicker than him, but he didn’t make any mistakes and thus didn’t give me any chance to overtake.”

Pascal Wehrlein (Mücke Motorsport): “Especially in the early stages of the race, I wasn’t able to keep up with the speed of Jazeman Jaafar and Sven Müller in front of me. Here at Brands Hatch, our car wasn’t perfect so far. But still, I have secured my maiden podium finish in the Euro Series and of course, that makes me happy.”
