IN FORMULA 3 EURO SERIES ROOKIE DRIVER SVEN MÜLLER CLAIMS A PAIR OF POLE POSITIONS

At the 4.307 kilometres long race track at Zandvoort in The Netherlands, German rookie drivers Sven Müller (Prema Powertea, 1:30.320 minutes) presented himself in excellent shape. In Formula 3 Euro Series qualifying, he set the fastest time ahead of Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam, 1:30.369 minutes) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mücke Motorsport, 1:30.392 minutes). As Müller also came out on top in the ranking of the second-fastest laps, he will also start the weekend’s first race from pole position.

For Sven Müller, who had incurred a craze in his right elbow four weeks earlier, it was his maiden fastest qualifying time in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Next to the young German and Raffaele Marciello, two further Prema drivers made it into the top five: Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam, 1:30.506 minutes), the Formula 3 Euro Series points leader, and Michael Lewis (Prema Powerteam, 1:30.600 minutes) followed in fourth and fifth place. The times of the first ten drivers were within less than 0.7 seconds.

Qualifying had to be interrupted twice. After eleven minutes, Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Carlin, 1:30.773 minutes) slid into the barriers. Six minutes before the end, rookie driver Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport, 1:31.780 minutes) hit the tyre walls. Sainz was classified eighth in qualifying, Wolf ended up in eleventh place.

Sven Müller (Prema Powerteam): “I am totally happy. With my first set of tyres, things didn’t go too well. With the second set, however, I was able to do two laps that were enough for two pole positions. I don’t really know what is expecting me tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.”

Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam): “Actually, I can be happy with second and fourth place on the grid, because I wasn’t able to improve anymore due to the two red flags. After my retirement at Nürburgring from last week, my goal is to score as many points as possible. I like the track here and it suits me.”
