Vanwall

Vanwall. The first Constructors’ Champion. Peter Collinswas at the wheel when Vanwall entered Formula 1 Championship in the 1954 British Grand Prix. Monza saw the first finish of the season for the team.

In 1957, Stirling Moss, after taking over Tony Brooks’ car, would give the team its first victory on home soil at Aintree. Other victories included the Pescara Grand Prix, the longest course ever used in Formula 1, and the season finale at Monza.

Vanwall made history in 1958 when they won the first ever Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. Moss took four wins but lost the championship to Mike Hawthorn in the season finale at Casablanca. Brooks took three wins.

It was in the Moroccan Grand Prix that the team’s third driver, Stuart Lewis-Evans, suffered fatal burn injuries and died a few days later at the East Grinstead hospital in England. His manager would play a major role in Formula 1 motor racing down the road. His name: Bernie Ecclestone.
