F1WEEKLY PODCAST NUMBER 607 CLARK AND NASIR TALK ABOUT THE ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX AND SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH DENNIS TREBING

Since Dennis Trerbing was a little boy he loved everything that had a motor. Whether it was a jet ski, boat, motorcycle or 4-wheeler, it just came naturally. Then in March 2006, he got the opportunity to race a kart at the Port Charlotte International Motorsport Academy. He was only fourteen and fell in love with it. Soon Dennis started racing in the Junior Tag, winning every race. When he turned fifteen, he moved up to the Senior Tag. With more than eighty pounds of lead strapped on the back of his kart, he won his first race! Dennis continued racing and winning in Senior Tag and even in the IMA Endurance Races. At the Port Charlotte Raceway in a group of twenty five drivers he placed first in front of a crowd of over 2,000.

IMA owner and instructor Sebastian Sauriol suggested that Dennis should attend a Skip Barber Racing School. Dennis went to a 3 day school in Homestead and a 2 day advanced school at Road America in Wisconsin. He raced his first formula car race in December 2007 at Sebring, enduring torrential rain and finished fourth in a group of fifteen drivers, receiving Rookie of the Race Award! Since then he has won the Skip Barber Regional Southern Championship 2008/2009 with several wins and podium finishes. He was also one of the prestigious Skip Barber Shoot Out Scholar Winners 2009. Dennis finished the 2010 National Series in 4th Place.

In October 2010, he got the opportunity to be a guest driver in the last race of the 2010 series of the Scirocco R-Cup in Hockenheim, Germany. It was his first time in a Volkswagen Scirocco and his first time with a standing start. Trebing finished top ten in the rain and impressed everyone there. This helped secure his position for the 2011 season. In December 2010, he was invited to race in the Best of the Best Race in Sebring, FL and placed 1st and 3rd.

Dennis received his high school diploma at the age of 16. Along with his parents, Ralf and Heike, he has an older sister Julia, and 5 dogs!Although he loves the adrenaline rush of racing, he hates roller coasters, but only because he is not in control. His friends are very important to him, loving to challenge them at Forza Motorsport 2 on the Xbox 360. Dennis has a strict workout schedule to keep him in his best shape and runs every day!

Dennis Trebing raced the 2011 season with Volkswagen Motorsports as a Junior Driver in the Scirocco R-Cup. He finished the season with an impressive P2 in points in the Junior Cup and P9 overall. In 2011, Dennis was nominated as a finalist in the prestigious Team USA Scholarship!

In 2012, Dennis Trebing was chosen as one of the top drivers in the world to compete for a position in the Porsche Junior Program. He was chosen as a finalist and got to test their 450 HP Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in Vallelunga, Italy.

For the 2012 season, Trebing is going to race as a Pro Driver in the Volkswagen Motorsports Scirocco R-Cup in Europe.

The Scirocco R-Cup is a new racing series to Dennis and to most people across the world, but won’t be for long! The Scirocco R-Cup is one-make race series composed of 8 standing start races that correspond to the DTM and Carrera Cup races. The Volkswagen Scirocco is the most eco-friendly racing series in the world, putting off 80% less CO2 emissions than any other race car while staying fast, sporty, with extreme performance!

This 2 liter, turbo, 225 HP car is powered through a six-speed double-clutch gearbox controlled through paddle shifting on the driver’s steering wheel. This series also offers something new, push to pass. Each driver gets an allotted number of pushes to give a 50 HP boost to be used throughout the race to make sure that everything stays exciting and competitive! Dennis believes that the Scirocco R-Cup is a trend-setting series that has the chance of changing the racing world and setting new eco-friendly standards. The exciting Scirocco R-Cup will be broadcasted live on the Sport 1 channel in Germany and on 15 networks in 56 different countries across the world in addition to news reports about the DTM!
