“Hello everybody, here I am. Sorry for the delay in contacting you but I preferred to wait until the moment I could finally share some positive news with you. First of all I would like to pay a huge amount of thanks to my fans whose support has been simply incredible since my accident in Italy back in February. I have been literally submerged by letters and various gifts and objects and it seems the flow is not slowing down. I also want to thank all the people in the world of F1 who showed in various manners their concern for the difficult situation I’m in. “

Robert, just over 10 weeks on from your accident – how are you feeling?

Robert Kubica: I am starting to feel a lot better now. My recovery is moving in the right direction: my strength and weight are increasing day on day and as a result I will leave the Santa Corona hospital very soon.

When exactly will you leave the hospital?

Robert Kubica: I don’t have a precise date as yet but I hope to be able to leave within the next 10 days.

Concerning the injury to your hand, how is the mobility now?

Robert Kubica: The mobility of my hand is limited but this is pretty normal in this kind of situation, because the connected arm muscles are still very weak due to the long period of immobility. Things are definitely improving day by day.

Can you tell us a little bit about your rehabilitation programme?

Robert Kubica: As soon as I leave hospital, I’ll head to my home in Monaco for a short period of rest. Then I’ll move to Dr. Ceccarelli ‘s facilities in Italy where I will start a deep rehabilitation program and a preliminary soft training programme. The two programmes will gradually cross over based on the speed of my recovery.

There’s been an amazing reaction from the fans – how has the response helped your recovery?

Robert Kubica: I must admit that it’s been overwhelming and, yes, it’s helped me a lot. I really didn’t realise that quite this many fans were supporting me. I’m very flattered and I promise them that, when I’m back, I’ll give them my absolute best.

Have you been staying in regular touch with the team since you’ve been away?

Robert Kubica: Yes, of course. Especially since the season started, I’ve been liaising with my engineers on what’s been going on over race weekends. They are sending me the race reports so I can remain up to date and fully informed, as if I were there at the tracks. Eric Boullier is also in constant contact, keeping up to date with my general condition.

Have you watched all the races so far this year, and what are you making of the new season and LRGP’s performances so far?

Robert Kubica: Yes I’ve watched them, and there is no doubt that it’s been a strong start to the season. The potential of the car, which I already noticed in the February Valencia test, seems to be confirmed. As usual, it’s now important that the development done in Enstone continues to produce consistent updates for maintaining this level of performance. The guys did a great job with this car and I’m sure they’ll continue to improve.

Finally, what messages would you like to pass on to your supporters in the Formula 1 world?

Robert Kubica: Well, just continue to enjoy the F1 show even though I’m not there at the moment. From my side, I’ll try to use my difficult experience to come back as strong as I possibly can.

Robert Kubica signs on with Renault F1 through 2012

“It was a straightforward decision for me to continue with a team where I feel at home, What’s important for me is to be in the right atmosphere, with a good group of people, where everybody is pulling in the same direction. This is what we have tried to build from the beginning of my time with Renault.

I think we have already achieved a lot together, and I believe that with plenty of effort, time and the right approach, we can move even further forward. That is certainly our target, so we will keep working hard and pushing on every front, not just for the rest of this season but also for next year when there are more big rule changes on the way. I am really looking forward to the challenge.

Renault has decided to maintain its commitment to Formula One and welcomes the
perspective of a strategic partnership with Genii Capital, a Luxemburg based firm
specialized in new technologies, brand management and motor sport. Following the
proposed sale of a large stake of Renault F1 Team to Genii, both partners will operate the
team together. The letter of intent signed by the two companies should be concluded in early 2010.

For 2010, the team will retain its name, its identity and the core ingredients that led to the successes
achieved in 2005 and 2006. The team will continue to be supplied with engines by its sister
company in Viry-Châtillon, which is also pleased to have received a renewed commitment from Red
Bull Racing for the 2010 season.

After 35 years in the sport, Renault today announces a new phase for its F1 programme, consistent
with Formula One’s drive for cost efficiencies. Formula One remains one of the biggest sporting
spectacles in terms of annual television audiences and media exposure. Renault therefore believes
that the impact of Formula One in terms of image, and brand awareness worldwide, particularly in
new, emerging markets, will continue to play a key role in fulfilling the company’s growth objectives
in years ahead.

Bernard Rey, Renault F1 Team President, said: “I am delighted to welcome Genii Capital as our
new strategic partner as I am sure that their enthusiasm and business expertise will create a new
dynamic for the team, the staff, and our partners. Altogether, we look forward to competing again at
the highest level in Formula One. Today’s announcement also confirms Renault’s commitment and
trust in the sport’s governing bodies to improve the green credentials of Formula One.”
Indeed, in making such a decision, Renault not only demonstrates its commitment to its fans across
the world, its employees in Enstone and in Viry, and the FIA, FOA and FOTA but it also believes in
the positive impact of promoting relevant technologies in synergy with its product plan. “With the
ongoing evolutions of the Formula One regulations, Renault will be able to entertain its fans, while
promoting a leaner and sounder Championship. We will show Renault’s skill when it comes to
developing high-performance, fuel-efficient cars” said Bernard Rey, Renault F1 Team President.
The important cost reduction measures, made possible by the collective work within FOTA, have
already improved significantly the operating cost base. With the anticipated sale of a stake in its F1
operational base in the United Kingdom to Genii Capital, Renault achieves today another step that
will definitely bring F1 participation to an affordable level for the Group. In addition, the new
partnership will contribute to procuring the team the resources to compete sustainably at the
highest level, and creates a great opportunity to modernise its governance.

Robert Kubica has announced he will drive for Renault in 2010.

Renault: “We are very excited to have signed Robert with the Renault F1 Team starting next season,” said interim Renault team principal Bob Bell. “Ever since Robert made his grand prix debut in 2006, he has been on our radar as one of the most naturally talented drivers of his generation and he has delivered on that promise so it’s great to have secured him in one of our cars next season.

“Renault has high ambitions and hopes for the future of the team and we feel that Robert can play a big role in fulfilling them.”

The Hungaroring is a Formula One racing circuit in Mogyoród, near Budapest, Hungary where the Hungarian Grand Prix is held. In 1986, it became the location of the first Formula One Grand Prix behind the Iron Curtain. Bernie Ecclestone wanted a race in the USSR, but a Hungarian friend of his recommended Budapest. They wanted a street circuit similar to the Circuit de Monaco to be built in the Népliget – Budapest’s largest park – but the government decided to build a new circuit just outside the city near a major highway. Construction works started on October 1, 1985. It was built in eight months, less time than any other Formula One circuit. The first race was held on March 24, 1986 in memory of János Drapál, the first Hungarian who won motorcycle Grand Prix races. According to a survey put together by the Hungarian national tourism office Mogyoród ranks third in venues visited by tourists in Hungary, following the Danube Bend-area and Lake Balaton, but before Budapest.

Hungaroring has crowned two drivers in its 20 year history: both Nigel Mansell in 1992 and Michael Schumacher in 2001 were able to win the World Championship title at early points of the seasons. Moreover, both Hungary’s Zsolt Baumgartner and Poland’s Robert Kubica made their debut on this track as the first F1 drivers of their countries. The WilliamsF1 Team also secured the Constructors’ Championship at the Hungaroring in 1996.

The 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix was the first wet grand prix at the Hungaroring. This saw the retirement of many drivers including championship rivals Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher and gave Jenson Button and the reborn Honda F1 team their first win. Fernando Alonso also earned his first Grand Prix victory at this in 2003, declaring it his favorite track as a result.

According to statements and interviews, drivers have different opinions on the track. While many like Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher, and Fernando Alonso claimed to love it, many others consider the track, and the Hungarian Grand Prix too slow, hot and demanding. The technical driving center of the Hungaroring held former racer Gerhard Berger’s name from 1998 until 2005 but later it was changed to Allianz.

While most of the foreign fans are from Germany and Austria, the Hungaroring has traditionally seen a large influx of Finnish fans as well. With the loss of the Austrian Grand Prix, this is the closest Formula One event for fans from other Central European countries. The 2006 race saw many spectators from Poland due to the debut of their first Formula One driver, Robert Kubica.

Some say that the Hungaroring is similar in style to Circuit de Monaco, due to its tight and twisty corners. A first change in the track layout was carried out in 1989, when the chicane after the actual turn 3 was removed. In 2003, the main straight (turn 1, see diagram) was lengthened by roughly 200 m (660 ft), and the hairpin at the end of the straight was also tightened in an attempt to facilitate more overtaking opportunities, as well as a tightening of what was Turn 13. However, this is largely seen to have failed. The circuit is almost flat, the only notable change in elevation being a valley in the straight after Turn 3.

The Hungarian Grand Prix has always been more of a promoter event than a profit-raiser in itself. The contract was prolonged until 2016, although tobacco advertising has been banned since 2007.

The Hungaroring is the home of Hungarian motorsport. Besides Formula One, there were also DTM, FIA GT Championship races in its history. A public drag race event takes place every month.
