A1GP–Powered by Ferrari: The 2008/2009 season starts this weekend on the Dutch seaside circuit at Zandvoort. The new car for the self-styled World Cup of Motorsports is based on the 2004 Ferrari Formula 1 championship winning design and powered by a 4.5-litre V8 Ferrari engine capable of delivering 600 bhp. Each car is equipped with a unique PowerBoost system, a mechanism to provide short bursts of increased power to create additional overtaking opportunities and action throughout the race.

The opening round in Mugello was cancelled due to production delays and some of the teams will also miss the Dutch round. Today’s major announcement that Andretti Green Racing will take over the Team USA operation will be followed by Michael Andretti unveiling the driver line up at Zandvoort, circuit where his Papito piloted his Lotus 79 to his final Grand Prix win in 1978.

Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick are both expected to be included in the line up. Time will tell how Marco makes his mark and how long Ms. Patrick’s tantrums will be tolerated in the international arena. Both these drivers have a grand total of one win each in Indy Racing League.
