Montenegro is a small country in the Balkans on the Adriatic coast with a population of less than 700,000 people.

One man, Danijel Ljepava, has big plans to make motorsports popular in his country. He recently opened a track in the beautiful city of Herceg Novi.

Construction of the track started in 2019 and was completed in June of last year.

The Mistral straight of Montenegro. The track is 600m (0.37 mile) in length now. The plan is to extend it to 810m (0.50 mile) to conform to FIA-CIK standards.

The track has a simple but impressive layout. Plans are underway to build a grandstand and pit complex. According to Danijel, the busiest months are between June and September.

Come one, come all. Herceg Novi is less than an hour drive from Dubrovnik in neighboring Croatia. Young aspiring racers from both countries now have a great facility to hone their skills and hopefully appear in international competition soon.

“We work on organizing for some championship, but we need more time to prepare everything to be professional level from our side” – said Danijel on the possibility of organizing a national karting championship in Montenegro.

F1Weekly would like to thank Danijel for his time and wish him speedy success in his karting plans.
